AUSTIN, TEXAS

Fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance, Sean Miller and his staff have spent the past week methodically dismantling the transfer portal. With Sunday's commitment of Tennessee guard Amari Evans, the Longhorns have climbed to No. 1 in the AIR-A national transfer portal rankings.

Texas now boasts four portal commitments, all ranked in the AIR-A Top 100, with an average rank of No. 33. It is, by any measure, one of the most complete portal classes in the country, with the window still open.

Isaiah Johnson | Point Guard | AIR-A Rank: No. 8 Overall

From: Colorado

Johnson was one of the most pleasant surprises in the national freshman class, breaking Colorado's freshman season scoring record with 540 points, surpassing the mark previously held by Alec Burks. He averaged 16.9 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game across 32 games while shooting 48.6% from the field and 37.8% from three. He set season highs of 28 points against Arizona and 43 minutes at BYU, and earned both NABC All-Mountain District First Team and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention recognition. Heading to Texas as the No. 8 portal prospect in the AIR-A Portal Player Rankings, he arrives with three seasons of eligibility remaining.

David Punch | Small Forward | AIR-A Rank: No. 10 Overall

From: TCU

Punch, a 6-foot-7 forward from Harker Heights, Texas, started all 34 games at TCU and led the Horned Frogs in scoring (14.1 ppg), rebounds (6.8 rpg), and blocks (1.9 bpg) while shooting 50.3% from the field, earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. He posted a season-high 26 points against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament, then carried that momentum into the NCAA Tournament with a double-double, 16 points and 13 rebounds, against Ohio State in the first round. Rated No. 10 by AIR-A, the Texas native brings versatile production and elite interior defense to Austin with two years of eligibility remaining.

Elyjah Freeman | Power Forward | AIR-A Rank: No. 40 Overall

From: Auburn

Freeman has two seasons of eligibility remaining. At Auburn, he appeared in 38 games and averaged 9.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 44.4% from the field. His standout moments included a 27-point performance against Queens (NC) and a 14-rebound effort against Tulsa in the NIT championship, where he also logged a season-high 40 minutes. Rated No. 40 overall by AIR-A, Freeman gives Texas length, athleticism, and proven upside at the power forward position. With Dailyn Swain having declared for the 2026 NBA Draft, Freeman projects as the starting wing for Texas next to Johnson, guard Austin Goosby, Punch, and center Matas Vokietaitis.

Amari Evans | Guard | AIR-A Rank: No. 75 Overall

From: Tennessee

With guard depth remaining a need for the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA transfer portal, head coach Sean Miller's program landed a commitment from Tennessee Volunteers transfer guard Amari Evans on Sunday. The Pittsburgh native, a 6-foot-5, 220-pounder with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, has three seasons of eligibility remaining after signing with Rick Barnes in 2025 as a consensus four-star prospect. In 35 games at Tennessee, Evans averaged 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 41.9% from the field, earning a growing role throughout the season on the strength of his defensive intensity. His breakout moment came against Vanderbilt in the regular-season finale, where he posted career highs of 24 points, nine field goals, three steals, and 32 minutes in a single outing. Miller has a prior relationship with Evans, having hosted an official visit at Xavier before the Pittsburgh product chose Tennessee. Rated No. 75 overall by AIR-A, Evans is a high-ceiling, two-way wing who arrives with three years to develop in Austin.

Longhorns Will Be Tough

Miller has assembled a deliberate, position-by-position team capable of competing for a deep NCAA Tournament run. The returning nucleus is formidable: center Matas Vokietaitis averaged 15.6 points and 7.1 rebounds on 61.9% shooting across 36 games as a sophomore and is a legitimate SEC Player of the Year candidate heading into 2026-27.

Add Johnson's elite scoring and playmaking, Punch's all-around production and toughness, Freeman's athleticism and upside, and Evans' defensive intensity and length to that nucleus, and Texas has the makings of a preseason top-10 program. The Longhorns still have work to do to round out the roster, but Miller is off to a remarkable start heading into Year 2.

With the portal window closing soon, April 21, and several scholarship spots still to fill, the Longhorns may not be finished. As of Sunday evening in Austin, one thing is clear: the Forty Acres is back in the national conversation.
